Help wanted! Bandwidth test to decide on a server change

We are considering moving servers to a new locations. The new location would be in France whereas the current one is in the US. This would have an effect on bandwidth and I think the France setup is slower but I'd like to get figures to help making a decision. The new server would be under our control and allow us to use more disk space.
Step 1. There is a 47 MB file that I'd like you to download from two separate location and measure the average download rate you get. When downloading please download a single file at once and disable your other ongoing downloads if any. The addresses are: http://www.smspower.org/videos/BLIP01_PFTV_HIGH.flv http://www.mekensleep.com/smspower/BLIP01_PFTV_HIGH.flv Step 2. A 'ping' score in milli-second, equivalent to the round-trip/reaction time would also be useful. You need to open a command-prompt / shell for that and type in: ping www.smspower.org (note average time in millisecond) (CTRL-C to break) ping www.mekensleep.com (note average time in millisecond) (CTRL-C to break) Please provide your results along with your country/location in the same format as in my example below. If you can't provide the ping info because you are scared by a command-line it is ok without. I am hoping to get numbers for a dozen countries at least. Thanks. |

Same download speed between 600 and 650 kB/second for both the files, I think that's just my connection being maxed out. |

downloads are roughly 50KB/s each, and I wouldn't expect any more than that from a 512/128 connection.
pings www.smspower.org ~ 212ms www.mekensleep.com ~ 335ms |

821kByte/s for smspower and 1.1MByte/s for mekensleep (10Mbit connection).
ping is 147ms for smspower & 40 -> 45ms for mekensleep I'm doing this from Sweden. |
