It is not worth the trouble use SEAL. You wouldn't get sound on Linux. I posted a patch here not to require SEAL. Use it and then compile meka.

BTW, SEAL is available here:

Is anyone working on sound for Linux? It would really be awesome. If no one owns it, maybe I could get to it sometime in the next six months. How would ppl feel about switching to SDL for sound? There is lots of documentation and projects using it that I could use for examples. I'm no expert, but a guy I work with develops and maintains Quake 2 World, which uses the SDL audio library. He told me it shouldn't be to hard to convert provided I can get a hold of a raw audio dump somewhere in the code. What do you guys think?

I think a full port to SDL would be nice too. However, I believe some of the MEKA architecture is somewhat bound to to SEAL's interrupt-based system, or something similar.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having used the SEAL library in the first place?

I thought it was supposed to be multi-platform etc.

Well, SEAL was chosen as an audio library to abstract away sound cards interfaces in DOS. Any portability was a secondary effect. However, it hasn't been updated since 1999 and thus is somewhat lacking on that front.

OK then, I'll try and look into this. I'm sure everyone can understand that free time is limited between family, work and other project contributions(mainly trac now days). I'll try and get the ball rolling and if I get really into it, maybe we can have something by 2009.
