SmsCartPad Multiplayer
![]() |
Hi all, Ive done the SmsCartPad ( http://www.smspower.org/smscartpad/smscartpad.htm ) for my PC and was wondering how can a second player play using a sega gamepad as well. Can the SmsCartPad be done on a DB9 Pin instead of the DB25 Pin connector ?

1. The drivers don't support it.
2. The hardware doesn't support it. 3. Your PC's DB-25 parallel port and DE-9 serial port are totally different and there's no way to connect an SMS pad to the serial port without using some kind of multiplexer chip. |

Actually, that's where you're wrong, Maxim. Dano, check the PPJoy homepage and search for the "ConsoleCable" scheme (under supported interfaces -> sega genesis). I built that one and it works like a charm. Just get +5V from the USB port. |

You CAN use two joypads on one paralell port. But I am not sure if it can be done with SMS pads (its just a digital joystick like the Atari used = no logic part, just buttons inside).
I have made the adapter for two Genesis joypads according to this schematics http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/Docs/Diagrams/Sega/SegaNTPadXP.htm using the PPJoy driver 0.83 http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=75176(for WinXP) But for SMS I have built adapter only for one joypad http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/atari.html with DirectPad Pro driver http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/dpadpr50.zip (this one works in win9x/Me). I think there is a way to make two-pad adapter for SMS, just try some other schematics from http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/PPJoy.htm (best for XP) or http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/ (I think the best for Win9x/Me). |

You should be able to modify your existing interface and add another port using one of the diagrams on the PPJoy site. Under the Digital joysticks section, check the Linux0802 or Linux gamecon interfaces. I've tried NTPadXP with the new style Genesis interface, but it didn't work with SMS pads for some reason.
