9 July 2000

Chase HQ - Taito - 256k 315-5265, 9147EY ROM Chip is unusual: has Taito logo, and says C40-01, HN62302BP, Y41, 2A1 Brownish circuit board. "(C) Sega" written on the board. Golden Axe - Sega - 512k 315-5235, 135U, 9015, Z22 "Made in Japan" and "(C) Sega 1987" written on the board. Brownish circuit board. Mercs - Capcom/Sega - 512k 315-5235, 135U, 9138 Z13 "Made in Japan" and "(C) Sega 1987" written on the board. Brownish circuit board. Rastan - Taito - 256l 315-5235, 135U, 9024 Z30 "(C) Sega" written on the board. Brownish circuit board. Sagaia - Taito - 256k 315-5235, 135U, 9203 Z39 "(C) Sega" written on the board. Brownish circuit board. Space Gun - Taito - 512k 315-5235, 135U, 9204 Z41 "Made in Japan" and "(C) Sega 1987" written on the board. World Grand Prix - Sega - 128k 315-5208, 111U, 8641 Z68 "(C) Sega 1986" and "Made in Japan" written on the board. Chipsets are organized vertically. White circuit board. Note: Numbers on the mapper chip: "8747", "9024", etc.. The two first numbers are very probably the date of the game release. (but Golden Axe's title screen says 1989..) The two next numbers might be the release number of the game in that same year. I think we can safely assumes that all Taito games used a mapper chip. -- Omar Cornut omar@cornut.fr |

Yipes! That's a pretty exhaustive list! Excellent stuff.
The only thing I should add is in relation to the markings on the chips themselves. These are date codes and are a standard convention among chip makers. "8735" for example would indicate a chip made during the 35th week of 1987. Mike |

Thanks for the info. Any idea what does the "Zxx" means also? So about Space Gun (see the related post), I suppose with only one week of difference between the two ROMs chips it is the same version. |

I'm a little unsure about this, but I would suppose that the letter (Z in this case, I've also seen T and D on different chips) refers to a particular manufacturing plant, and the number refers to a specific batch or production run.
I'd guess so - if it was different, the ROM would probably have a different "MPR" part number. |
