Hmm... cartrige slot ?
Post Posted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:40 pm
It is the neatest design ever made, but I longed for cartridges...

This console is being officially released in an event occurring in São Paulo till Friday.

Hope to pass by there tomorrow afternoon.

I really love it. I shall be in communications with my Brazil contact ASAP.

I hope that it isnt the exact same games line up as the 131.. The exclusives are pretty poor in the main, a few were quite playable but bad to look at. The 120 model was better.

I can see that for Tec Toy there is no reason to waste money on having a cart slot unless they were going to release new titles on cartridge aswell.. Not sure what the market would be for re-releases of the older ones. I know I would have to get them all though :D

Well, sure, but consider that gamers miss (I do!) retail versions of games with presentation boxes and good manuals.

Since I currently have no SMS my longing for the cartridge slot is sort of an utopic dream, but it really would be cool if that turned into reality.

PS:
And, don't forget, we're gonna have Jeanie out there sometime to really bring fresh ideas to the scene.

A bit more research
Post Posted: Fri Aug 08, 2008 4:45 pm
Well, I did my homework using Perl and the following URLs:

Official list of new games:
http://www.tectoy.com.br/pagina.php?tag=jogosms131

List of 131-in-1 (old design) games:
(Click on "Itens Inclusos")
http://www.comprafacil.com.br/comprafacil/viewProduct.jsf?VP=zNllb8URyQIcxYHWT5C...

Here's what I've got:

1) Games in the new model only:
==========================
Acerte o Alvo
Dominó
Double Target
My Hero

1) Games in the old model only:
=========================
Palhaços
Penguin Land (!!!)
Pense bem (10 jogos)
Pit Pot

That's it. Two official games out of the road.

I'll try to take some pictures today of the new model and the new games.

Nilo

PS: One idiot thing....... can anyone sum the games up to 131 ?? The new model seems to have 99+19=118 only...

I think you have to count all n-in-1 games as n, not 1.

Based on the list posted above, it has 'Pense Bem (10 Jogos)', giving a total of 127.

(THEN, if you add Satellite 7 and Junte 4 it's many more! ;-)

Pense bem (10 Jogos) isn't in the new 131-in-1 model.

Also "Junte 4" is the name of a single title (Connect 4).
(James reviewed it here: http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11078&highlight=junte)

And so should be "Satellite 7".

Yes, I was totally joking on Junte 4 and Satellite 7.

Pense Bem is listed above in the thread, but not on the link you mentionned.
There's however "Os 12 trabalhos de jongo", what is this?

"Os 12 trabalhos de jongo" reads like "The Twelve Jongo Work", looks like the title of another crappy educational game...

Yes the list above seems to be outdated, I followed the Tectoy official list (at the link).

I don't have the slightest idea...
"The 12 works of jongo". Someone on the net said it's Voodoo as a theme o.O...

Well I put my hands on the last of the moicans!

Namely: The 131-in-1 old model, about to be replaced by the stylish new one.

I took 4 pictures of the back of the box, there are screenshots of 100 games on it.

See for yourself what "Os 12 trabalhos de Jongo" is about!

Well you could assert that the games I listed as new only are indeed in the old model:
Acerte o Alvo
Dominó
Double Target
My Hero

(Considering that vendor lists posted above are inaccurate. Only Dominó stands a chance to be new, from the screenshots).

Also, you could be the chosen one that unveils the 131 game list checksum, becomes famous, rich and lives forever! xP

I have the new design 131 on order with my 'supplier', so i'm sure we'll get to the bottom of the issue. I'm quite sure they didnt remove a 10 in 1 to replace with a single game and forget the fact it's supposed to have another 9 games.. or did they :/

Correct.. Although unlike the last few Tec Toy Master System's to come with MD style pads they have now made one of the buttons 'Pause', this SMS has no Pause button the actual system.

Take caution if you do.. I wiped some finger prints off with my t-shirt and it has left tiny scratch marks all over now :( You can only see them if you get the angle right but it's annoying! (Like the marks you get on a car after you have taken it through an automated car wash).

But does the PAL-M color system work on a regular european PAL (NTSC compatible) TV set?

No... because PAL-M is NTSC based..

And... that's why i hate "Black Piano" painted electronics... They are a fingerprint magnet and if you wipe them, lots of scratches..

Actually it works on my Euro PAL TV just fine. In full colour with sound.

But most TV's it may not work on.

I'll create a picture to show it working shortly :)

I don't fully understand the exact deffinition of those terms, but i'm going to say composite. The cables are pictured above and they plug in behind a little flap on the side of my telly.

Just a quick tip for cleaning the shiny plastic. Go to an optometrist and pick up one of those glasses cleaning cloths, in essence that shouldn't make scratch marks on the plastic as they are designed to not scratch glasses, which is made of the same material. I have the same problem with keeping my PS3 clean, its all scratched now :P

Yes but indeed this does look all shiny and new.

They actually have a nice selection of games, which is surprising. I don't see the point in not adding a slot too though... they'd sell like crazy.

Aha, I missed those with all the shiny shiny next to them. Yellow cable = composite, and I think that removes some of the Brazilian weirdness. Or maybe you have a really compatible TV.

That looks like it's the same base mould used since the SMS2 in all 3 there. Are the "cartridge slot" lines connected on the 2006 model?

You can see on the yellow one there's a place for a cartridge slot with what looks like the right sort of connections on it, just no connector on it. Some people might be interested in hacking it (since it's a small board) and might like to add a connector on there. But would it work? Of course you don't know, until you actually connect it up or something, but you can have a closer look and see if there's tiny circuit board traces going to the silvery connector blob bits.

How much did you pay for these?

i'll open it up and have another look this week.

It's been a wile sine I got the 2006 and 2007 models so I can't locate the exact amounts.. but i bought them together and they were posted together. I think it worked out to be around £70 each posted using airmail.

The 2008 model was about £90 including air mail post from Brazil.

Post could have been cheaper but I wanted Airmail plus I insisted on them being packed inside cardboard boxes with plenty of packing.

I still want the 74, 105 and 112 models.

Wow.... not much in 'em. Looks like the main board for the later models would just about fit inside a game cartridge.
