This appeared recently (a or so month ago), out of nowhere:

A yet unknown black boxed variation of the Sega Light Phaser.
It's very legit, but I have no idea why nobody spotted this box before. Small production run, or unique prototype?

The box mention Rescue Mission, Rambo III, Shooting Gallery, Gangster Town, so it can't be a 1986 production.

The inside (at least what I got) was just the standard Light Phaser and Rescue Mission.

I was the only owner of this box and the phaser, and I'm lucky enough to have a well aerated room, which allowed to keep it in proper shape for 20 years.
Being very conservative, I just found back the purchase receipt for the Sega Master System and the phaser. The phaser was part of a Rescue Mission package. The exact purchase date was August 26, 1989".

Is there a Barcode on the box? - should be an indicator if its a proto/display box or a proper retail box.

And what does the text on the back of the box say?

Thats really great. I'm guessing if the seller had put photos of it like these on his ebay auction it would have sold for more.. so well done with that one :) A really interesting find. 18 years undiscoverd, weird. Makes you wonder what else is 'out there'.

Left pane is written in french, right pane in english. That's an interesting indicator, by the way. Here's the english text:

exciting video shooting games beyond your

To use the Sega Light Phaser just follow those simple steps >

1. After you have properly connected the Sega Power Base plug
the Light Phaser into Control 1 on the power base.
2. With the power OFF, insert the Sega card* or cartridge* into
the proper slot.
*Caution: Light Phaser will not operate properly without this
special software.
3. Turn the power ON. Position the Light Phaser in front of the
TV, approximately four to six feet away.
4. To start the game, pull the trigger.
5. When aiming at an on screen target, line up the Light Phaser's
ront sight so that it is seen between the rear sight.
6. The Light Phaser will not control the movements of an on-
screen object. It is meant to be used in shooting type games
only.

Light Phaser Precautions >

1. Television brightness and contrast may have to be somewhat
increased, especially when using an older television.
2. Hitting a target is more difficult when shooting from a
position too close, too far away, or off to the side.
3. The shooting range depends on the television's screen size.
Recommended distance from television is 4 to 6 feet.
4. Do not expose the Light Phaser's lens to an intense light other
than that of the television.
5. If the lens at the tip of the Light Phaser needs cleaning, usea
soft cloth. Do not use cleaners such as benzene, alcohol,
thinner, etc. for this purpose.
6. Do not drop or crush the Light Phaser.

IMPORTANT: Light Phaser Series Software required for proper
operation.

I don't have the box handy to check for a barcode. I will.

No serious this is a good find, i noticed it says made in Taiwan now correct me if im wrong but i cant think of anything that was released in Taiwan from the Master System range? As i said correct me if im wrong

We know it has no inner packaging so if there is no barcode on it then id say this was an item display, its never a prototype or the gun itself would have some kind of difference on it (which im sure is the first thing you checked)

ok, well I have a few games that say 'made in Taiwan' on the back. There is a thread here somwere about game boxes with a strange feel of plastic cover. Those would be the ones from Taiwan
