Terebi Oekaki / Graphic Board planned for european release?
Post Posted: Fri Sep 08, 2006 9:46 am
Onyx found this in a german booklet. Looks like a variation of the Japanese Terebi Oekaki was planned for an European release. It was advertised to be a Master System (not SG-1000) product.

The board has description for the short names used in the software:
CL: Clear all graphics
BA: Changes background colour
ER: U ses cursor as eraser
SY: Draws symmetrically
CD: Clears display

In those old "Master System FAQs" we find this mentioned:
Jeff Bogumil (SMS FAQ, 1997) wrote
Sega of America announced a "Graphics Board" (a drawing pad, with images appearing on your television screen) and a 3.5" disk drive with the SMS' introduction, but neither accessory was released.

[...]

Tonka announced a few peripherals in their '88 "Let the Games Begin" catalog.
They include [...] Light Tablet ((#?????) rumored
ONE prototype to exist -- I would guess this tablet is the Graphics board
announced by Sega)...

Does anyone have a copy of this "catalog" to scan? I expect the SoA announcements can be found reported in old US magazines.

This is the most interesting piece of sms history that has been discovered in the last six months, since the find of the big nose proto

And no one is interested!

This place is getting bad

I'm interested (and so is everyone else I'm guessing) I dont always like posting because I dont have anything to add, I dont know exactly what you would use this item for so I dont wanna look like an idiot. It looks like a drawing pad for a PC, surly there has been some softwear developed to use it with?

James:
This graphic board was released for the SG-1000/SC-3000 in Japan.
Check out http://www.smspower.org/museum/terebioekaki for some information and the downloadable software.
It's pretty primitive.

I suspect that this so-called SMS prototype would use the same SG-1000 software because it's not possible to do full screen drawing in Master System video modes.

Onyx: it's not uninteresting, but what could we add? There's so few info. The general concensus on those forums is to avoid posting to say nothing:
