Did anybody ever SAW or HEARD about this thing?

Sega Game Gear
Car License
Nayuta
(c) 1995 Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation

Weird...

I searched about it on the internet, and stumbled on a Japanese website with someone listing all articles that appeared in Famitsu (Japanese magazine).
Here is the website: http://bring.under.jp/ftindex/
Car License seems to be mentionned in the Famitsu issue of the 1995/06/23. I am looking for this issue now to see what they say about it.

What are your guess?
A professionnal tool running on Game Gear?
Something to learn driving? (doubtful)

I bet it's just questions you have to answer with 'right' or 'wrong' and it will give you an idea of how well you did in the end. Learnings traffic situations, signs etc.

I bought the cartridge. I'll have it at home in a few weeks. I still have no idea how rare it is. That's the only copy I ever heard of.

I've seen this at a certain shop numerous times in the last year, but I've been too cheap to get it. I'll probably get it next time I see it. Looks interesting. I also need to perform (or find a friend who will) that Game Gear sound fix.

What it the same single cartridge that you saw numerious times?
I was very surprised hearing about this game, especially since it's written in Japanese (not in Chinese). I heard nothing about it before.
And now I'm surprised to hear that you already saw it... maybe it's not that rare. But it's not in known GG lists.

How much was it?
Does it has a manual or a box, by any chance?
(I don't know if it was ever marketted with a box, I'm just wondering).

Yes indeed. I just hope it's not gone yet. I'll have to go after uni one day.

Just the clear plastic case, if I recall.

Got it.

It's a weird game, pretty much all of it is in Japanese so I can't understand a thing.

Looks like a learning test, like S.F. suggested. There's also a part called "BROCKED STREET" [Blocked Street, of course] where there are cars coming towards you, and you have to fire something at them to make them turn back, and they turn around and come back at various speeds. Here's a screenshot of the title screen, forgive my shocking digital camera quality.

And here's a photo of the cartridge for good measure (that says $19.95)

There is an extremely overpriced copy in an auction site in Argentina. It's around 100 euro (slashed from 400 euro)

I can't post link due to lack of permissions. but here is a screen cap:

Car Licence Manual
Post Posted: Sun Dec 15, 2013 3:46 pm
The game was auctioned this week with a manual (first sight of it).
I'm pretty gutted I forgot to bid on the auction, it ended at a fairly low price (8750 yens).
Attached pictures of the manual.

There's actually a manual only auction now available...

I've still never seen another with the case, console and extra leaflet.

Have I mentioned how I wished someone with the skills would do a hack that would take you from the title screen straight to the driving game ?

Chris it isn't very hard to figure out the way by yourself :)

I won the manual above. Talking about being so clumsy, I missed the earlier auction, and on this one I managed to make a typo and add an extra digit, bidding 10 times what I intended to bid. So it went above my intended bid but I won it.

Wow, I can't believe you guys unearthed this topic almost at the same time I found about it because of a Yahoo Jp auction.

So jealous of those who got the game for 15$ or a few thousand yen. Right now the starting bid is 60.000¥. Doesn't mean it's worth it but it did fetch 20.500¥ in a 2013 auction. And I'm pretty sure it's much more rare than Aleste 1 or Zool, who seem to command the highest prices in the Japanese library.

Yep, good deals on anything retro video game related almost don't exist anymore. There's just too many collectors around here and a lot of people with a looooot of money.

That may be its true worth if we leave global greedyness aside. I heard it's not a very fun game.

It's more of a collector thing. Since it was never sold and only given to driving schools it's crazy rare. But yes, almost all of the "game" is just the written test for getting the driving license. Hardly fun.

We certainly have much better games to play in the Game Gear library.
