This has been on my todo list since literally a decade
Those bootleg Korean boards.

Board 1 (got it a long time ago from Valdivia)
Opa Opa
Tri Formation
Solomon no Kagi

Board 2 (just purchased from Korea and dumped this morning)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Makai Retsuden
1 dipswitch to select game
8 unknown dipswitchs
Bought from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arcade-pcb-board-SMS-SEGA-MASTER-SYSTEM-JAMMA-ALEX-KID...

Pictures of board 2 attached. Sorry it's missing a close up of the right part of the back side, should be ok? Bonus picture: a picture of irresponsible me using Ikea kitchen wares to remove the EPROMs from their socket because I have nothing else around me.

The five games are all dumped, we need to figure out insert coin mechanism and dipswitches.

Interesting hardware! The pictured board has a Z80 CPU and presumably an SMS1 VDP (the large, covered chip). However there are several differences from an an SMS console:

  • The crystal runs at 11MHz, compared to 10.7386MHz in a real SMS. Presumably this is fed directly into the VDP and divided by 3 for the CPU (as in a real console) - but the CPU is a Z80B, rated for 6MHz. A Z80A rated for 4MHz should have been sufficient.

  • The board has a total of 4 8KB RAM chips where a real console has only 3.

  • The collection of small ICs on the board must implement the logic usually found in the on-cart mapper, as well as that usually handled by the in-console I/O controller.

I found pictures of the first board; taken in 2001, pardon the bad pictures.
