Bomber Raid title screen extra art - "Battle Wings"?

I noticed these graphics loaded during the title screen to Bomber Raid. For the first, I wonder why they didn't use it; for the second, it looks like maybe they weren't sure whether to do a WW2 shooter or a futuristic one, perhaps?
(N.B. tiles arranged by hand, layout may be wrong) |

OK, I found it...
Hold D+L on controller 1 and U+R+1+2 on controller 2 on startup to get a different title screen (attached). I haven't tested on a real system, it may only work on a Japanese one (it's around the region testing/FM chip detection area in the code). Alternatively, use this PAR code: 00c116ff Can someone try to reproduce this on a real system? [Edit: corrected buttons and PAR code] [Edit: added Bomber Raid original title screen for reference) |

I can't test this on a real machine, but it seems to be reproducible under emulation independent of FM chip and region settings.
However, the correct buttons to hold on controller 1 seem to be D+L and the correct PAR code appears to be 00c116ff. |

Oops, my mistake - that's what you get for reverse engineering when you're supposed to be sleeping. |

They should have called it Battle Wings instead.

That's great, Maxim.
Bomber Raid's usual title screen is so incredibly boring; why'd they even use it? |

Interesting thing I've learned: Bomber Raid was originally going to be a conversion of Sonic Boom.
Actually, this seems to be a "known" thing in Japan. Or at the very least, the comparison between the two has been made over there. |

That screen looks sooo much better. It's beautiful.
