This article is here for a few reasons.

  1. To tell you how to read the serial number.
  2. To list the known living and dead Game Gear units of the world.
  3. To give me something to do when I'm bored. ;)

Reading the Serial Number

Ex:010280447

The first number or letter is the factory number. In our example, this is factory 0(Taiwan). The second number or letter is the last digit of the year. Which means the example is a 1991 Game Gear. The third number or letter is the production run. So the example unit was made during the first production run at factory 0. The remaining digits are the number of Game Gears made, up until yours. This means the Game Gear in the example is the first run in factory 0 in 1991 (010) and is the 280447th unit made there.

Posting serial numbers

Note: Due to the age of the Sega Game Gear handhelds and the number of different factories, not all of these serial numbers, or their meanings, are accurate. If you have any corrections, feel free to point them out in the forum topic. Thank you.
