No full-size JPEG images have been modified in any way after being downloaded, to stop any degradation in quality when recompressing; so any JPEG artefacts and wonky angles are from the original file. Some GIF images were rotated through 90°, but that won't have affected their quality.

Where I found that I had more than one scan of the same cover, I chose the best based on image quality, colour and size. In a few cases, I chose to include more than one image because neither could be discarded.

Note that some images will require manipulation to remove rotation, colour casts, poor contrast, etc. I leave this to you as such processing would require recompression. Paint Shop Pro 7 does this very well for me.

All scans were reduced to a height of 100 pixels (maintaining aspect ratio), and saved as JPEG thumbnails. The compression level of every image was adjusted so that, for scans of one side of the box, the image was the highest quality while less than or equal to 1500 bytes in size. For scans of the front and back, this limit was 3000 bytes, and for the few images about halfway between the two sizes it was 2000 bytes. This means that some thumbnails have noticeable compression artefacts, but the pages are quick to load. Note that IE allows you to view the page as the images download and Netscape 4 doesn't.

In case you don't know, these are what the flags mean:
Europe: Europe UK France Germany Italy Portugal Spain
North America: United States Canada
South America: Brazil
Asia: Japan Korea Hong Kong
Oceania: Australia New Zealand
I'll add more flags if necessary (note that some of these might not be used yet).

Note that some regions, particularly Australia, tended to get the covers from other regions (Europe and the US). Such covers will be given a Europe or US flag, not Australia (for example). [ index | copyright information | submit a scan ]
