We proudly present the first ever SMS Power! Euterpean Birthday Shootout, the Sega 8-bit musical contest of the masses. Entries to the compo will be accepted if submitted before March 27th, and you are heartily invited to join the vast ranks of competitors, which stretch from one horizon to another. Or maybe they don't, but music compos are fun, so start cranking out those tunes!

Update: The deadline has been extended to Sunday, March 27th, 2005 (instead of March 20), based on various requests.
March 27th is SMS Power anniversary, so you'd better submit something great! :)
Since our first post, Martin has released a working beta of his super Mod2PSG2 Sega 8-bit Tracker! Check it out.

To participate, have a look at the rules below, and submit your entries to the entries section.

The competition is also open for everyone to judge. All you will have to do is download a number of entries, as many as you feel like, listen to them, and fill out a simple form. Judging begins on March 27th, SMS Power! birthday, and will last for a week. Couldn't be simpler, and the more who do it the more fun!

Starting March 27th, all entries will be downloadable for judging or just for listening.

Competition rules

  • Entries are to be related to the Sega 8-bit gaming consoles and their games, namely the Sega Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000, and varieties.
  • Two types of entries will be competing in the same category : entries related to specific Sega 8-bit games (remixes, medleys) and original compositions playing on Sega 8-bit systems (submitted thru a VGM dump).
  • Entries are to be submitted through the form in the entries section.
  • The deadline for submissions is March 27th, 2005, included. Entries submitted after midnight March 27th, GMT, will not be accepted.
  • Files submitted must be formatted as either MPEG layer 3 (.MP3), Ogg Vorbis (.OGG), or VGM. If your source format is another (eg: a module), you are encouraged to submit the original format along with a MP3/OGG rendition.
  • Judging is open for the public. Voters will be required to register on a dedicated form or the SMS Power forums in order to participate. The exact voting procedure will be provided later.
  • Acceptance of entries is up to the competition administrators, who may choose to disqualify any entry at their own discretion. Entries containing expressions of racism, religious beliefs, etc will naturally not be accepted. The administrators may also choose to disqualify entries judged as not being serious or being too similar to existing material. So use common sense!
  • Each composer may compete with any number of entries.

Entry Submission

Submissions closed.
This doesn't prevent you from creating new music and posting them, thought :)
