Can we have the Japanese too? Can you confirm the corresponding tracks in the VGM sets?

English/japanese titles do not always match so I'll translate them if different.

(Game Gear version only)
VS. Dragon / ボス戦 (= Boss Battle)
Opening /
Shop /
Mind of Hero / 海 (= Sea)
Desert Zone / 砂漠 (= Desert)
Adventure Zone / 森 (= Forest)
Take It Easy / 沈没船 (= Sunken Ship)
Staff Roll /
Ending /

They aren't always the same track names as mentionned in the Game Gear ending credits, which we used as a base for the VGM pack naming. However we had to guess track titles, and this track listing is solving some bad guesses we made. Eg: "Mind of Hero" in Japanese is "Sea" which we named "Side-Crawler's Dance".

The PS2 compilation also include scans of several original scores. Will have to extract that someday :)

The "Test BGM" tracks are rather disappointing. In fact, I think we might have found this track earlier while doing VGM hacking but dismissed it thinking it wasn't even a valid track. The acoustic remix however is decent.

Comparing original Soundtrack / VGM Package:
Title                           VGM Title Screen
Monsterland Revenge             VGM The Last Dungeon
VS. Dragon (Boss Battle)        VGM Vs. Dragon
Opening                         VGM And Now...
Marine (Town)                   VGM Monster-Town
Shop                            VGM Shop Music (The Dragon's Trap)
Room BGM (Room)                 VGM It's a Treasure Box
Item (Item Get)                 *Not in VGM package*
Mind of Hero (Sea)              VGM Side-Crawler's Dance
Desert Zone (Desert)            VGM The Danger Zone
Adventure Zone (Forest)         VGM Mind of Hero
Monsterland (Dungeon Falling)   VGM Mouse-man Falling Music
Take It Easy (Sunken Ship)      VGM The Monster's Lair
Staff Roll                      VGM The Dragon's Trap
Ending                          VGM Endless War
Game Over                       VGM Continue Music
Test BGM (Sound Test)           *Not in VGM package*

Needless to say, this is confusing. Our VGM package is certainly no authority, but it use title names written in the Game Gear version so we have to choose between those and what's in the soundtrack. Personnally I prefer the one in the Game Gear version. Anyway the good thing is that we can at least fix the naming of our bad guesses and recreate a playlist matching official order.

Lets extract it now that we know it's a valid track and put it in the vgm packs.

It's available in Japan, probably available thru import shops.
The name is "Monster World Complete Collection".

Checked with the soundtrack listing and noticed that there are two tracks missing from the discs that are in the arcade version of Wonder Boy in Monster Land (they were both unused though).

As for WBIII, I would prefer if the Game Gear names were used as anyone could have chosen them names. Maybe ask Shinichi Sakamoto about this just to see if he/she might know.

I suppose you're talking about the tunes Unused 1 and Unused 2 from the Mame/M1 rip. Maybe they're actually the two tracks Perfect [6] and Extend [4], respectively? I don't have the CD so I can't confirm myself.

Shinichi Sakamoto has digitally released his Monster World Complete Collection at Egg Music. Most of you won't probably be able to buy the tracks, but you can at least preview them -- might be useful to harmonize the names in the GG/MS/MD rips, and to determine the proper calibration between PSG/FM...

That's played when you get the key right at the beginning of WB3/MW2. (unless your talking about the VGM pack)

So what is considered right. The CD or the Game Cart credits?

The OSTs are usually considered canonical. But sound tests / game credits are useful to fill in the occasional blanks.
