Bo

I have a few questions about the guy who composed the music in Phantasy Star and Space Harrier II.

1. Is Bo the same person as Tokuhiko Uwabo?

2. If he is, does anybody know his complete discography? The longest listing I've seen is a feature done on him at Sega-16.com by Ken.

3. Is Bo and/or Uwabo working today? What is he up to?

Thanks.

Yes, it's the same guy. There's a gamediscography at GMCL, and his Japanese name is likely to turn up more information if you can read it. No idea what he does these days.

I have a feeling he also did SMS Choplifter. The sound person is credited as "Hairy Uwa." Come on...Who else could it be?

Wasn't it "SEGA Sound Team"?

Yeah, that's right. Sega Sound Team.

A guy like Uwabo really ought to have a fansite or two. He was one of the most talented and interesting of composers whose work I ever heard coming from video games.

Izuho Takeuchi worked on PSIII. Takeuchi and M. Nakagaki composed music for IV. Uwabo is given "special thanks" (some of the first game's music was redone). He was sound coordinator for Panic! He was sound coordinator/programmer on Revenge of Shinobi. He's also credited with Battle Golfer Yui and Streets of Rage.

Maybe he did Lucky Dime Caper? It's like Castle of Illusion and Quackshot.

Bo is probably my favorite game composer of all time, and I'd really be curious to know what became of him, as would alot of people, but he seems to be retired and/or in hiding.

Okay, I've made a little page for Bo here at the Wikipedia do-it-yourself "Encyclopedia":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokuhiko_Uwabo

Hope it's accurate. If it's not, feel free to correct it at will ----

Thanks everyone for the help.

I just found out that the music for Super Monaco GP for Megadrive was written by someone called "Bo".

Thanks! I wonder if he is the same.

JohnnyZ has Uwabo listed for Super Monaco GP II (SMS) on his MIDI page, and that music sounds more like Bo than does the Mega Drive games. He also lists Koichi Namiki as composer for Super Monaco GP 1 (SMS).

I'll make VGM packs of these if anybody wants. Wish I knew which were by Bo in composition. Also I'm interested in doing GG Batman Returns and GG Shinobi (the Yuzo and Kawashima).

(by the way, Johnny, nice MIDIs. Sorry I just went wild and exceeded your bandwidth transfer....).
