Korean Super Game 270
Post Posted: Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:39 pm
I've acquired various Korean compilation cartridges, trying to list the content of some.

This one is called Super Game 270
Product Number: GB-2701
Type: Mega ROM

It has a startup menu with an artwork and playing My Hero's great boss music.
There's 10 sub-menus, labeled 1 to 9 and A.
Each menu has 27 entries, making a total of 270 'games'.

Of course they aren't unique games. I have listed the entries from the first 5 sub-menus as of yet (130 unique entries). Entries with a + denote the first time a new game is introduced. So far on the 130 entries I've checked, there is 58 unique games. Many entries are hacked usually to blank out logo/copyright infos or to jump directly to a later level.

I guess it is using some proprietary mapper to bankswitch. It seems there's nothing bigger than 32KB on there too (maybe some 48KB MSX hacks?) so it ought to be possible to figure out the mapper interface and dump via the expansion port, provided the menu can be dumped.

I'll try to do that (when I get my SRAM cart back). Some other cartridges have pretty cool menus interface. I've got a total of 8 compilation cartridges here. Some I can't name due to not reading Korean.

At least they had some taste in the MSX games they chose.

Why is the cover taken from a Telecable Benelux cartoon?

Well, the animated series was produced in the Netherlands and Japan, so it might've aired somewhere in Asia. Still an unexpected choise for a cover..

Because Asian pirates have never, ever had an art department.

Unlike, say, a large multinational first-party game producer.

I know, but if I was their non-existant art department, I would have taken a picture from Dragonball and another picture of an airplane and put them together.

I just want to give a +100 for this project. I've been dreaming of playing MSX games on my game gear for so long. I used to have some of these multicarts with the extra games and I sold them for peanuts 10yrs ago like an idiot! :0
