Sorry I don't know anything about the FM board.

However, those are very good photos of your SMS PCB - do you mind if I add them to the Hardware Images section of this website?

Do you have any higher-resolution (larger) versions of the photos?

yes, 1600*2780 - but it's not the big difference from the 1400* version

It's hard to tell the traces going to the AV port, so I'd suggest finding the audio pin on the AV jack and then tracing it back until you come across an electrolytic capacitor. Clip off the cap, solder the red and white wires to where it was, and then for ground you can scrape off an unused portion of the board and solder onto that.

The key is the yellow wire going where the CXA used to be. It carries sound.

One would put the wire to the other capacitor hole and then solder in the FM board wires.

Like first except you have to take yellow wire out of red wire hole and put it into white wire hole. Alternatively you can remove the yellow wire altogether and put white wire into where the yellow wire goes

Was there a cap at C37, looks like it could have been installed there?

Would it be possible to send me the larger versions? My email address is in my profile.

Markus/CNT64,

I sent you installation instructions based your photos two days ago by email. Here they are again:
Quote
1. Remove the yellow wire between (not fitted) C37 and (not fitted) IC9.
2. Solder the white wire from the FM board to the +ve leg of C37, where
the yellow wire was.
3. Solder the red wire to pin 9 of IC9, where the other end of the yellow
wire was installed.
4. Solder the copper shield to a nearby ground point (pin 1 of IC9 would
suffice).

Please close the "Paypal dispute" over the cost of the board. I will give you a refund if you find it too difficult to install, but a Paypal dispute is ABSOLUTELY NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO GO ABOUT THIS.

Tim, I sent you email instruction request two times (one week of waiting) without any answer yet, (my spamfolder incl.) - after that I startet the paypal case yes - and you see it seems to help. I'll do it now like the instruction you wrote me here. If all comes well I'll close the case - sure. btw. this thread runs for days now - why did you answered not earlier?

anyway - the paypal case isn't for the puplic - that's not right too - but I've no problem with - so let's just solve the problem now

later!

@viletim

I hope that TmEE's bad n' reverse solution didn't destroyed the fm board logic... what do you think:

...so CNT64 , you opened a paypal dispute because you got a hardware addon that you had no idea how to install on your specific french sms console?
And how is that viletim's fault? care to explain?
I am very curious why you did that as it is certainly NOT the right way to treat viletim in this situation.

you have no idea, it's not yer problem, it's not yer money, it's not the right place to hash and rehash the coherences just for your private amusement - so stop to intermeddle and back off. viletim can speak for himself. Capisce?

I really doubt it, but it's quite possible the board could have been damaged via shipment. Things do happen, the first thing would be to find another SMS if possible to attempt the mod on (obviously not the same model you have).

Obviously, I wasn't there for the emails so who knows what. But, I know Viletim wouldn't purposely try and screw someone over. Talking like this will only dissuade people from helping you in this thread.

I have sent you two emails in the last three days. If you haven't received them I would question the reliability of your email service. I haven't joined this thread earlier simply because I didn't know about it! You didn't mention it to me and I don't check these forums regularly these days.

I wouldn't normally mention it on a public forum, but I suspected a communication failure based on your reaction.

Anyway, the installation looks good from your photos. Does it work? (the SMS is not likely to be damaged from a bad installation)

I more meant the fmboard n' the YM chip, cause TmEE's solution reversed the in/out cables... dunno if this was bad for the fmboard or not ...

Does it work?

PSG sound works in both switch postions with non FM games - is that normal? anyway, I'm gettin the master everdrive tomorrow - then I'll check some FM games to report you - sure

What's about the US/EU bios of my board revision - do I need the jap. BIOS? or should it work as it is?

What goes around, comes around. keropi started the attack.

anyway, I'm not that sensible n' I'm surely not wearing any jacket.

It's supposed to output PSG in either switch position if you're playing a PSG only game.

Reversing the polarity just makes no sound output at all.

So, it sounds like you do have it setup properly, but you have no games to reliably test it with. To play Japanese games you will have to hack the headers to have the TMRSEGA (I believe that's what it is) or remove/hack your BIOS.

What games do you have? Maybe you have an FM game that you can test.

fmboard works, got master everdrive 2day n' tried the phantasy star translated game rom 1st, sweet FM sounds n' the pause button feature is the best ingame PSG/FM test anyway - paypal case closed.

tim, you should update yer website abt. the m4 powerbase PCB soldering.
