Genesis Power Base opened - support for 3D glasses on later sms models?
|
|
I just opened one of my Power Base converters for Genesis (here called Mega Drive) of TecToy to use on Nomad and saw some interesting things about.
The edge connector GEN<->SMS is just a bridge to the superior board, ressembling a converter. And that's the great thing, this edge connnector is already a converter and the superior board just add the 3D function? If it's true, maybe that superior board can be put on one SMSII and have the 3D capabilities. -Some Photos below |

| You need nothing but the card slot and run some wires to add 3D and card support to SMS2. | |

But this one here can do the same job? It's interesting the way that the edge connector is purely simple like a converter, it even mark the pinout with 1-49 on one side and 2-50 on the other side. |

| There is no need for anything on the top board besides the card slot connector. | |

| Probably better to destroy an SMS1 instead of a power base. | |

| Hmm... I'd be quite tempted to buy a broken model 1 SMS when ever I get a model 2 to mod it like so. Is there any guide on how to do it? | |

Not that I've seen, but it's pretty straightforward. Just desolder it and trace the pin outs to the relevant spots on the cart slot.

| Now that's very cool! But would it allow use of the 3D glasses? I suppose it would only allow you to play card games, but that would be nice anyways. | |

| Yes, it will allow the use of the 3D glasses. | |
