1969, the second game of RETICA studio after Duke Nukem, is a vertical shmup made with the editor KiddEd.
So you will probably have to turn your screen 90° left, you can also use Ctrl+Alt+Left on Windows.
We only worked 9 days on the game, only one weapon and 2 enemies; there is still some bugs, the game should be updated every week during the votes.
Enjoy!

That's a quite creative abuse of the Alex Kidd engine. ;)

I really like the idea of a vertical shmup for the SMS! I can just imagine it being played with a big CRT TV turned on its side. I love the 1945 games so an SMS port is a great idea. I look forward to seeing further developments.

LOL, This reminds me of Ghosts and Demons a platform game for openbor a beat' em up engine. Nice graphics and music made in such a short time, Can the controls be fixed so that not to rotate the tv? :)

Yes but it's not easy to do a rom with changing direction feature, that's what I would like.

I purchased a rotating monitor specifically to feed my shump addiction some time ago. Unfortunately in this case it turns the wrong way making the scrolling go downwards... doh!

Clever use of the alex kid engine and fun, if a little easy gameplay.

Ctrl+Alt+Left on Windows

Cool hack! Actually reminds me of "1942" :) Could you please elaborate on "Ctrl+Alt+Left on Windows"? I'm playing on Fusion emulator on Windows and would be cool to get the vertical scrolling... Thanks!

Some graphics drivers install screen rotation hotkeys, I think this one is Intel, if you have a real graphics card then it's up to you.

Awesome - thanks for the info! Actually, I just found out that another way to implement this is as easy as just to Rotate Display via the nVidia Control Panel on Window. Right click the desktop | NVIDIA Control Panel | Display | Rotate Display | Select monitor and simply change the orientation from Landscape to Portrait. Easy!
