Game Gear power plug
Post Posted: Mon Mar 06, 2017 12:04 pm
Hi

The Game Gear works everywhere with 9v, but there are two kinds of power plug.

Could you tell me in which countries the power plug of the GG are different frome the Japanese/European one, please?

The European but also Japanese GG (so it not dipends from 220 or 110V) has got a larger plug with polarity - inside and + outside.
The US GG has a smaller plug with inverted polarity, so + inside and - outside.

Did only USA (and maybe Canada?) have this kind of power plug?

I think this apply to all regions which uses U.S. based versions, here in Brazil we have the smaller version of power plug.

Thanks...but which are these countries?
All the North and South american ones?
Or only the 110-120v ones of North and South America?

I've read that in Brazil you have current to 110v to 220v....how do you can manage that situation? It appears something confused to me....

I'd actually like to know if pigtail converters exist, so I can use my US Sega power supply (or my RetroDC) on my Europe Game Gear. I use this for SNES: https://console5.com/store/super-Ni****do-snes-power-supply-adapter-plug-cable.h...

...does someone know where I could buy one for the GG?

With all the gray market importing, who can say for sure? It seems to me like all of North and South America uses the opposite GG polarity.

The actual power adapter unit is external. Sega would've included a different one in 220V areas of Brazil, no need to modify the GG.

The power adapter has a switch which you can select between 110V and 220V.

I do not know if this was made exclusively to Brazil, but this was made by Tec Toy, official SEGA distributor in Brazil.
Tec Toy has made similar power adapters with dual voltage selector for Master System, Mega Drive, Sega CD, 32X and Multimega CDX
