SMS games that use the Pause button for gameplay

Like the subject says: is there a list of SMS games that use the Pause button for something other than pausing, i.e. for a gameplay function? Off the top of my head I know of a few, like Streets of Rage. But a list would be useful, and I wasn't able to find one.

I know Zillion does, it allows you to switch characters, view your character stats and how many ID cards you have.

Yeah, right now the rough list I have includes:
Alex Kidd in Miracle World Golvellius Psycho Fox Streets of Rage Wonder Boy III Wonder Boy in Monster Land Zillion I haven't verified most of these myself, though. |

James Bond 007: The duel uses Pause to show stats and change weapons.

Desert Strike is unplayable without browsing the (quite extensive) information hidden behind the Pause button. If you get stuck in Krusty's Fun House, you have to pause and press [2] to exit - but it's not required to actually play the game. Lemmings is a lot easier if you abuse Pause.

On Lemmings, you can select skills for the rodents while the game is paused, and I think you can even order them to start a task [however, they won't begin doing it until you press Pause button again]. It's very useful, in certain levels you have to act quickly.
Notice that there are also some games in which the Pause button doesn't do anything at all; not even pauses the game. For example, Sega World Tournament Golf. |

Jurassic Park uses it for the level select/sound test cheat

Thanks to all. So far I've got:
Alex Kidd in Miracle World Desert Strike Golvellius James Bond 007: The Duel Jurassic Park* Krusty's Fun House* Lemmings* Psycho Fox Streets of Rage Wonder Boy III Wonder Boy in Monster Land Zillion Games with an asterisk use the Pause button mainly to pause the game, but also have non-obvious functionality (cheat codes, etc.) that's available while paused. Any others? It'd be interesting to have a "Pause button does nothing" list too. Both of these might be worth a wiki tag, actually... |

I put "pause" into the site search engine for a quick list of games that use the Pause button for cheats in some way. A few more I can think of include: Addams Family (inventory, to use Thing) Danan: The Jungle Fighter (inventory, use animal) FIFA International Soccer (options menu) Lord of the Sword (map) Star Wars |

-On World Cup USA 94, the Pause is used to make changes in the team and the strategie. This can be done also on Ultimate Soccer.
-On Great Golf (the Japanese version), you can peek the current course while the pause is activated. -On Bubble Bobble, you can view all the items you have -On Robocops Vs. The Terminator, you can see your score and number of lives. -On Out Run 3D, the Pause can be used to change between 3D and 2D Mode (only on Title Screen) -On Monopoly, by pressing the Pause, the game goes weird =S ... On the other hand, these games are not affected by the Pause (not sure if there are some more): -Golfamania -PGA Tour Golf -Putt & Putter -Sega World Tournament Golf -Shanghai (although there is a cheat for activating a new game that requires the Pause) -Tecmo World Cup '93 -World Class LeaderBoard |

I think these sorts of things aren't worth documenting as tags, as there's little chance you'd want to use this feature as a way to browse other games with the same odd functionality. However, there's no reason not to make a list. Here's a starting point...

Great, thanks so much, Maxim. I agree that a list is the perfect way to do this. Among other things, it's useful to emulator authors -- and to people telling Krikzz to keep the pause button on the Everdrive MD. :D (Not that that's an issue anymore, mind.)

Baku Baku Animal, being a lazy Game Gear port, requires you to press Pause to start the game (the game comes with a little piece of paper - very easy to lose - explaining this).

The following SMS ROMs (plus some homebrew software and BIOSes) have a retn instruction at address $66 - they therefore completely ignore presses of the Pause button:
94 Super World Cup Soccer (KR).sms
Castle of Illusion - Starring Mickey Mouse [Demo].sms Cyborg Z (KR).sms Dodgeball King (KR).sms Ecco - The Tides of Time (BR).sms Haja no Fuuin (JP).sms Jang Pung 3 (KR).sms Loretta no Shouzou (JP).sms Miracle Warriors - Seal of The Dark Lord [Proto].sms Miracle Warriors - Seal of the Dark Lord.sms Mortal Kombat 3 (BR).sms Puznic (KR).sms Sangokushi 3 (KR).sms Sitio do Picapau Amarelo (BR).sms Super Bioman I (KR).sms Super Boy 3 (KR).sms Super Boy 4 (KR).sms Super Tetris (KR).sms
Although this is true of the prototype version of the game, it seems to me that the final version does have a pause feature? |

I know this is a 2 years old thread here, but I stumbled on it today and noticed a game missing...
Moonwalker has pause functionality. It shows the number of lives left, and the number of kids left to rescue in that round. |

Wonder Boy in Monster World uses Pause for inventory access, same as the previous ones.

Damn, I always found these games annoying.
Jurassic Park uses the pause button to select weapons and health kits. The last boss requires a lot of health kits and so I usually play it in a crouched position, poised over the pause button in readiness for when I need a health kit. |

I dug up this thread some time ago. After a little work I added a few games to the list.
For the record, Streets of Rage is listed, but i think there's nothing special. Also, this allowed me to add tags to some games Multi-Language - Trivial Puirsuit - World Cup USA 94 Password - (Disney's) Aladdin - Buggy Run - Cosmic Spacehead - The Smurfs - Loretta no Shouzou - Road Rash - Tecmo World Cup '93 Menu/Others - Action Fighter (Status/Score) - Ariel - The Little Mermaid (Status/Maps) - Bonanza Bros.
