FM mod + SN76489 mixing
Post Posted: Sun Dec 27, 2015 1:38 am
Hi,

Planning on purchasing a modded SMS. 50/60hz switch, additional video output and potentially FM sound expansion board. Company here in Australia can do it so supplier is covered.

I have questions about the FM board. The only way I would use OPLL is in conjunction with SN76489. Reading about it and I hear of issues with mixing.

The company uses Tim Worthington's SMSFM Sound Expansion Board, they list 2.1v as the latest but I assume their website is out of date. On Tim Worthington's website it talks about a solution for the mixing.

Has anyone had experience with this board? Maybe run the FM version of sonic, believe it uses mixing?

Sorry about the vagueness. In short I am questioning whether I should get the FM mod. I would only be interested in it if I could use it as an accompaniment to SN76489.

Psidum

The latest version of the SMSFM board rectifies that issue, but I would probably get in touch with the seller and ask what version they used. Getting the FM board is still definitely worth it anyway, you shouldn't really let that one issue hold you back from getting one.

Sent them an email asking for clarification on the board version.

They only offer the board upgrade on model 1 systems so it all becomes complex. Want the VDP 315-5246 and if possible allow use of 1MB cartridges (reading conflicting info on 512K limits on some systems).

I am sure the company will hate my by the end though I am a repeat customer.

Big cartridges compatibility is a BIOS issue, the VDP doesn't affect it.

Of course.

What I don't know is do all model 1 SMS units have the same problem.
