Castle of Illusion - Level Maps: is it even possible?

I wanted to make level maps for Castle of Illusion, but it's not an easy task because there are some sections which are shown only when the level scrolls up or down (and can't be mapped since the level can scroll only in certain areas), and furthermore, this leads to some inconsistency. See the attached (incomplete) map: you die if you jump in the pit at the start, even though there is a perfectly legit cavern below it. I needed one hour and a half to make this map and it's not even 50% complete, do you think it would be easier if there was some kind of hack, or should I just give up and start mapping another game? The long task doesn't scare me per se, I don't like how the outcome is going to be inaccurate in some way.

When there's this kind of impossibility, the solution is usually just to leave it blank as you did. (I try to use transparency, others use white or black.)
By the way: http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/MasterSystem/index.htm#CastleOfIllusionStarringMicke... Is it any different? Edit: Well, the graphics were changed slightly... but the layout seems the same. If you want to make it easier, did you try this: http://www.smspower.org/maxim/Software/ScreenshotAutostitcher which ought to work pretty well with this game. |

I didn't know there were already maps on vgmaps, to be honest I didn't even know that website existed.
Yes the layouts are the same, disregard this thread, sorry. |
