Don't think I've posted that before. Those games were apparenlty sold in Taiwan but I'm not very sure of that. Note the lower right corner of some Japanese-like cartridge labels, they are also different from originals.
Sorry I don't have much more information about them for now.

The last picture shows SG-1000 compatible games also from a same source.

Interesting - I see some of them sport the Aaronix logo - looks like that may have been licensed after all (the mention of Sega on the bottom label of the console lends weight too).
If Wikipedia's SG-1000 page is anything to go by, the Aaronix was among the best selling systems in Taiwan in the early 80's...

The bottom left one on the last picture is Chack'n Pop.
The bottom middle one is a generic label they used for many games.

The boxed ones seem legit.

I mean the silver sticker on the cartridge. That's not 阿羅士, it's something else.

Roughly, "if you rip this game off we'll come after you". Sounds like the official distributors warning the pirates...

In the second picture they have some chinese logo on the bottom right of the sticker. The first picture indeed looks like Japanese games (could be). I posted it because all pictures were from a same guy.

It also looks like "Lethal Weapon 4" on the cart with the WB logo. Are these all unlicensed movie licenses?

Don't know if you're already aware of this, but I've found this forum post with list of games released for the Aaronix (SG-1000 clone) in Taiwan:

http://www.gamebase.com.tw/forum/30032/topic/82680587/1#82685962

Translation: http://translate.google.no/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=no&ie=UTF-8&...

That shows the Japanese name, Japanese release number, Chinese (Taiwan) name and Taiwan release number. I see that there's pictures of some of these games in this thread (I mean on SMSpower).

Just in case the link will stop working, I'll copy the post here:

Quote

(W-011) champion baseball

(R-046) Dragon Wang

(R-065) Ninja Princess (SC-3000)
(R-066) Super Tank

火狐狸 zoom909(應為紅卡)

EDIT: And here is a good set of pictures of consoles and games fram Taiwan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29952362@N00/sets/72157607171775088/

Among them we see the Aaronix 2000 (a SG-1000 II clone) and some Aaronix games. (I see W-020, R-046, R-059, R-108, R-060, R-066, R-104 and R-051 in there). R-060 is Doki Doki Penguin Land. It says here on SMSPower about a release of that game "Unlicensed Hong Kong Version of the original Japanese release. It was available for an obscure Aaronix SG-1000 clone." Why do you think it's from Hong Kong and not Taiwan?

I think it was a mistake due to a general lack of knowledge on those things. Maybe we discussed that in the past? You are right that it is from Taiwan.

Updated with higher resolution files. I wonder how difficult are those things to find today in Taiwan.

I wonder how difficult are those things to find today in Taiwan.

It should be possible to get in touch with the guy that have those photos. He probably knows more about this than we do...

Sorry for delay reply

In pass few years, I am set a wrong Flickr mail notice address at my account, so I am not aware about message, very very sorry.

These AARONIX console and cartridge also very diffcult to find in Taiwan today. Because most of Taiwan video game player choosed NES/FAMICOM in that time. so these game and system become rare and expensive in Taiwan Auction market. I get them at many old video game retailer, flea market or junkyard, and recycle shop at Taiwan.

I am very glad to post more information about it, as I know. and sorry for my poor English.

BEST,

Wenli

I bet that 3-Man Mahjong game is total ass. The Famicom Mahjong titles are so horrid, I've really only enjoyed the Chinese SMS version. Man, the more I learn about all of these Asian releases (mainly Korea and now this), I just want to cry. I don't think I'll ever get around to figuring those markets out or even gathering anything of worth.

WOW!
Thanks for your e-mail and post. This picture is very impressive. How long have you been collecting these? Do you know other people in Taiwan interested in it?

You're telling me man, if I had money and time I'd love to hit up markets there or in Korea. In Taiwan I could at least get around and ask questions and stuff, Korea would just be a mess. Do you guys have a list of the Korean exclusives anywhere on the site yet? And what about Taiwanese games? I'm a little out of the loop because of the extra summer work I took on, so I might have missed something. Are there any known exclusives or are they mainly pirated and licensed titles released for the Mark III and prior?

Korea: there is an almost complete list of release on the forums (although a bit rough) and we are still working on transionning more information to the site database.

I went to Korea and I don't think you can find any Sega 8-bit game in the game shops in Seoul anymore. I went to countless shops and there was nothing (but its still possible to find Megadrive stuff). A few people from Japan and US basically already went to those shops and got everything. The games I could find where outside Seoul and in the most improbable place (thanks to the best guide ever that I had!).

Taiwanese games I think they are all hacks of SG-1000/Mark III games but Wenli should know better! I managed to purchase 14 Taiwanese games recently, which I should receive this week :)

Boy, that sucks. Oh well, at least I have an excuse to not look for any. Yeah, that game, tha'ts pretty much the same as the Famicom version (but it's called 4-Man and there are four positions). Horrid game.

I was spend about 10 years to collect them, Most find in small town, contryside or village at central Taiwan.

But, collection method like this is more and more diffcultly today. 阿羅士 aaronix is almost totaly forgetten name in Taiwan now.

aaronix is made by 嘉霖行(Chia-Ling Corp.), It was SEGA trade agent company in Taiwan at 80's.

so all of aaronix SG-series hardware or software very possiblely producted under SEGA Lincese. (But still not documented evidence.)

This company also disappeared in Taiwan at long time ago. Most of Retro Game Community in Taiwan has lack of further information about it too.

As we've been planning since a few months, I will travel to Taiwan on December 14 to meet Wenli.
A little time for tourism, but a lot of time for fruitful dumping and meeting worldwide retro Sega fan :)

These Carteridges Using Same Format Plastic Case with SG Games, But they aren't any kind of Game.

These are "LD-Video Subitler Carteridge" (LD字幕卡) for use when People Watch American Movie in Laser-Disc Format, they useing it to display Chinese Subtitle. It's very common on Taiwan, HongKong and China.

Here is a picture of such kind of Subtitler Machine.

Maybe there's a more current thread for these, but this was the most relevant I could find via Google.

Aaronix Space Harrier box + others ...
