Geez. I probably don't have enough money to cover it all. I am gonna compute all EPROM checksum I can to figure out what it worth buying.

Quite a stash. Shame Asterix isn't in there. (although that's quite logical when you think about it).

Interesting to see Super Racing since it was never released outside Japan...

I'm kinda ### off to find about it that late. I already mailed the seller which seems like a nice guy and offered to buy everything, but I think some cartridges are already gone. I will let you know what happens.

I'll get a loan from a friend - I am slightly in debt already, but with the yen value I should be able to catch up soon (my salary is magnitude of what I had in france). :)

I verified EPROM 16-bits sum against those posted in the pictures. Splitting the known ROM images in two and using smspage.exe /sum on them.

Hahaha, don't worry, I'll let you know if I notice anything weird, though you've already verified Super Racing is the final version. I'm also getting a Miracle Warriors prototype from him. I'll give you the sum info when it arrives.

As confirmed from other checksums and people who bought from another lot he had, there's also several unfinished ROM and early stuff. I will be receiving a lot of 22 cartridges fairly soon.

The package just arrived. I will get my dumper and some other hardware imported from France shortly. Thanks a lot to Zach on this one, he was really helpful. Shame I could not get the second half, I guess we'll eventually track them down.

DreamTR bought a few, he said only about 2 of them were earlier versions, the rest were finals or simply display 'Coming Soon' screens and have no game data whatsoever. The others are being purchased by members of the 8Bit forum, so you can easily track them that way.

I'm going to totally need to play through this version of Miracle Warriors I got. Already, within about three minutes of play, I could find differences in the text in spite of the fact I haven't played the regular release in months. In addition, the gameplay seems to be SERIOUSLY heavy on the player's side. It's incredibly easy in comparison. You hardly take any damage.

Definitely. I'm either going to get Bock or someone to explain the process, or mail it off to him to dump and then he can send it back to me. I've been meaning to do this anyway for future projects, so perhaps I can belt out some sort of lame Miracle Warriors "Pussy Edition" or something. But, at any rate, I'm going to take on the mammoth task of going through the whole dang game to see what's what. I just finished the real version only about half a year ago, so most of it is still fresh.

as a Miracle Warriors self-confessed freak, this sounds pretty fascinating to me, so please keep us posted! :)
I've always wondered how accurate was the translation of all texts and names from the original Japanese release. nice item you got!

The first difference I noted in text occurred after a battle when you get fangs or cash. Offhand I forget, but it was something like "100 Gold, You This Have Got."

It seems easier. The text after winning is the same, "100 Fangs (or whatever)...you get." Gameplay seems easier though and weighed heavily on the player's side. I'll try it more and then get back to you about dumping it.

Mine have arrived.

Moonwalker - appears to be final build, all looks the same as the release, only played first level though. One thing i noted was that the section after you finish a level when you get a load of bad guys on one screen seemed much eayer and quicker on my proto.. I'll have to dump and check this to be sure it's not my imagination.

Castle of Illusion - Title screen then Mickey walking across the screen twice at the start of level one.. doesnt quite look the same though, then the comming soon page that other protos have.

Blade Eagle 3D - quite interesting, appears to be a totally different game, or at least very early build. Title screen is different, music is different, level one is totally different. Not played much of this but I will do this week. (How are emulators with 3D games, for dumping purposes?).

So it it possible the earlier, 'actually fun to play' version?!

I've dumped my 3 protos. According to the SMSReader the Moonwalker is not the final build, one of you guys might be able to figure out whats different..

I'll post up a link to download them shortly.

got my 3 protos today

Zillion The Tri Formation:
The start screen is different. It is in blue and it says "the tri formation Zillion II"
Also the music is much slower and there seem to be little differences in the levels-but i have to check more...

Maze Hunter 3D
Couldnt find big differences so far-but the music is slower than the normAl one and the start screen is a few seconds longer before the demo mode starts.

Cyber shinobi
The intro is different from the normal one- There is no story told.
Then the level starts but the game breaks down after a few seconds.
Though this level looks much different to the normal first level.
Maybe it could work better if it would be dumped...
EDIT:
For some reason it works on my master system II
But the scrolling is bad and it breaks sometimes down..seems to be a very very early version.
Oh, and the level is totally different. Seems to be a proto level are something like that...
Iz only contains 1 level which is about 6 minutes to play long

I got it. I am now arranging to get me a SmsReader shipped to my new place in Japan to dump this and other cartridges I bought.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Bock.

As a wonderboy fanatic, anything potentially new or different is a must :)

Has the SmsReader arrived Bock? I can't wait to have a close look at the Monster Land proto as I know the game inside out.

Thx Bock,

I was wondering how to label this one.
The title screen says Super Wonder Boy Monster World, like the Japanese version, but it is in-between both so should it be labelled "Wonder Boy In Monster Land [Proto]" or "Super Wonder Boy Monster World [Proto]". The earlier makes more sense based on what has been done so far. (World Cup 93 [Proto] has title screen saying World Cup 92, but if we take account of all title glitches in prototypes it makes things more confusing).

I think that it should be labeled in line with the title screen, in this case, so:

"Super Wonder Boy Monster World [Proto]"

Edit:

Now that I have had some time to think about it, there could be an issue with confusing this proto with the Wonderboy in Monster World [proto].

So perhaps using Monster Land in the name would be better so their is no confusion.

was it ever confirmed whether the version of miraclewarriors stan has is substantially different, if at all, from the proto Bock mentioned?

Not yet. But we agreed with Stan on a trade (I am working on it) so eventually I will get his cartridge as well and will dump it.
