Who Done What: Natsume
Post Posted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 8:27 am
NeoZeedeater did a topic about Technos over at the Digital Press forums. I was about to tell him that SMS Renegade was done by Taito, when I realized the names in the credits of it and some other Taito SMS games don't necessarily match up to other Taito games. Upon further investigation, it looks like Natsume could have done at least some of Taito's SMS games. There is an established relationship between the two - Natsume did Dungeon Magic on the NES and Ninja Warriors on the Super NES for Taito.

Natsume might have also done some Taito PC-Engine games, but I'm not ready to delve into that.

One person to pay attention to Iku Mizutani. Pretty much everything he's done, he's done for Natsume.

Is it a he? Iku is a girl's name in Japan. I don't know if it's not a boy's name also, though.

There are a lot of Konami games there, too.
I wouldn't get hung-up on Iku Mizutani, since musicians tend to work more on a freelance basis than others in the game industry.

Okay, there's a few MSX Konami games, but most everything else seems to be Natsume. Chances are Mizutani probably had a gig with Konami before he/she/it worked primarily for Natsume. But we're missing the big picture...

Another game Natsume might have done for Taito is The Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper for the NES

Planner I. Matono, S. Nishiyama, Onijust
Program K. Sakai, H. Hishikawa (Programmer on Renegade)
Graphics S. Takaoka (Given special thanks on Shadow of the Ninja), A. Takino
Graphics T. Ohyama, T. Kaname
Sound I. Mizutani, K. Umino

The only PC Engine game credited to Natsume that I'm aware of is Dead Moon, which was actually developed by Studio Ducks.

I'm convinced now. I wasn't sure if it couldn't be a subcontractor working for both companies, but if it says "programmed by Natsume" on Ninja warriors, which is a Taito game, and if there is such a correlation, I'm convinced.

Well then, let us confirm it (for now, anyway): Renegade, Sagaia, and Special Criminal Investigation were done by Natsume.

It's known that Natsume made Hana Taka Daka!? on PC Engine.

GameFaqs has very detailed lists on all game companies. If you check Natsume, they did make all those Master System games.
