Here in Brazil we have two kind of sms2. The first one is the same sms1(US), but it comes with Alex Kidd(the hamburger version). The second version is like the sms2(US) and it comes with Sonic1. I dont have sure, but I think before that second version, there was a sms2(US) like version with Alex Kidd in the memory.

Yeap, this one comes with sonic1. Newer releases now comes with Sonic1 in the memory plus a 20games-in-1 cart!!!

I am also interested in the BIOS. If I had the tools I'd dump it from my SMS. :) Does anyone have a copy of it that they would be willing to share? Preferably I'd like the original US one. (With the hidden snail game.)

Saying it "just prints SEGA on the screen" is a bit non-chalant as the original BIOS did much more.

i dont know if the sms2 was ever released in the US, so stop putting (US) beside it ;) considering the small market it had in the US, its more of a european console.
anyways, the sms2 came in (as far as i know) two different colours - the more common black console (shows a sega logo before starting AK) and an earlyer dark blue console with a white pause button (no bios logo, starts AK after powerup).
my machine even came with documentation that specificly says 'New Zealand' model (just means that it has a 'channel 2/3 switch - for selecting alternate RF output) , but apart from that im pretty sure its identical to machines found in Aus or england

I have to say the japanese bios is very cool! That 3D background look
like Space Harrier's and its just amazing. I dont know why Sega of America changed it.
