Sprite ripping through tile viewers?
Post Posted: Fri Apr 12, 2019 3:37 am
Hi all,

I recently found something while looking at MEKA's tile viewer while playing Quartet. You know how the character portraits pop up during the results screen? Well the tile viewer shows a bunch of what looks like animations, like Mary smiling or Edger taking his glasses off.
Unfortunately, I cannot figure out a way to trigger these animations and neither does the internet.

So I tried using a program called "Tile Molester" which despite it's awful name is a great graphics viewing tool. I chose it over Master Tile Converter because you can change the viewer window size to make it assemble small portrait graphics. Unfortunately with it though, I cannot seem to find the right codec input to make the graphics "correct". What settings do I need to get it set up correctly? Do I need a specialized file to do this?

It depends on what compression is used for the tiles. You may find it easier just to screenshot the tile viewer and reassemble manually.

Not exactly. Here, let me show you an example of these "portraits"

The tiles aren't exactly sorted in an even way.

Nice find!
Does Double Target behave any differently in term of animation? (some still shots here: http://bto8.smspower.org/segapower/1314/index.html)

Perhaps when changing the characters for the Western released they broke or removed animations?

Oh, it is possible to get the animations to play?
By collecting more medals? How do you do that?

Looking at some videos, it seems to be an animation sequence played when the rank goes up. The manual says rank is gained by getting a high score.

Here's some examples:

Maybe there's an animation per rank, I didn't find them all.
