PAL SMSII RF cable still required after AV mod
Post Posted: Tue Jan 08, 2019 7:20 am
Hey folks,

Let me start by saying what a website! I'm so glad I stumbled across this place! Anyway, my problem...

Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't seem to find any information on my issue.

So I recently followed a guide and performed an AV mod alongside a power light and a 50Hz/60Hz switch.

Everything seems to work perfectly, however I still need to have the RF cable plugged in to my TV even though the display is being shown through AV. Without the RF cable plugged in I get no signal.

It's not a deal breaker as the picture is great and there is no need to tune in to an analog signal, but it's impractical to need to plug the antenna cable in.

I have a small understanding of electronics but this is a little above my head.

I'd love to be able to do without the RF connector completely and this seems to be the case for others who have performed this mod. Where did I go wrong?

Thanks in advance,

-StolleMan-

Include some photos of your modwork on the board. This will help us out.

Thanks for the reply

I can't link photos I'm afraid: Non-registered or recent members are not allowed to post links. Sorry, spammers force us to do this :)

One is before the terminals were added.

It's hard to make out what's going on in the other one, but the terminals are added.

Nothing out of the ordinary I expect...

The only thing I can think of is that it must be a grounding issue. Can problems with poorly grounded terminals be circumvented by plugging in the RF cable and introducing a new grounding point?

Success!

I didn't really understand how the RCA terminals that I bought worked. After redoing the common ground everything is now functioning as expected.
