Master Everdrive FM chip
Post Posted: Sat Oct 27, 2018 3:56 am
I wasn't aware, until recently, that the master everdrive had an fm chip on it.
I haven't played with it a lot to be honest.

So I tried wonderboy 3, but I get the same sound as without an FM chip.

I have a v1.1 master everdrive and an SMS2 with added RGB port. I think the everdrive is a 2011 model..., but it has the fm chip on it so I guess it should work with it.

Does anyone know how I can enable the FM chip ?

From pictures I saw on google, the only components my everdrive doesn't have is the usb connector and the FTDI chip. I'm not sure what those would be used for.

None of the Master System-based EverDrives can gives you any sort of FM sound added.

The only sort of an EverDrive that does add YM2413 support is the Mega EverDrive X7, for the Mega Drive.

Otherwise, you're going to need to mod your SMSII.
I'm sorry!

Damn, you're right the post I saw where they talked about SMS FM sound uses the mega everdrive.

I just looked at the everdrive again and the part I was talking about is most likely the Cypress CPLD. The part number starts with FM18 or something like that.
I must have missed the giant Cypress logo right next to it at 5am lol.

I'll see what I can find about the FM mod on a SMS2.

I just got back from trying the Mega Everdrive I gifted to my brother and tried Double Dragon (SMS) on the MD. It sounds amazing!
But then I tried wonderboy 3 (SMS) and the sound was identical to the SMS.
Does the wonderboy 3 sound only change on SMS with the FM installed and not with the mega everdrive on MD?

You need to patch it to play FM on a non-Japanese system.

I see, thanks for the info Maxim, Flygon.
Will check how to do this.

EDIT:
Do you know why they would only enable FM sound on the Japanese version ?
Was the FM sound unit never released outside Japan ?

Correct. A few games only check for FM if it's a Japanese system.
