Multi-Game Cartridges - Create a Saga
Post Posted: Mon Sep 26, 2016 11:03 pm
I´m thinking in programming carts with various games.
The idea born from Master Games 1 (512)
Super Monaco GP 256 + Columns 128 + World Soccer 128

I´m thinking in this:

1.- Fantasy Zone Saga (512)
Fantasy Zone 128 + Fantasy Zone II 256 + Fantasy Zone:The Maze 128
2.- Smurfs Saga (512)
Smurfs 256 + Smurfs Travel the World 256
3.- Bubble Saga (512)
Bubble Bobble 256 + Rainbow Islands 256
4.- WonderBoy Saga (512)
WonderBoy in Monster L. 256 + Wonderboy III:The Dragon´s Trap 256
5.- SpiderMan Saga (512)
Spiderman 256 + Spiderman: The Return of the Sinixter Six 256
6.- California Saga (512)
California Games 256 + California Games II 256
7.- Wimbledon Saga (512)
Wimbledon 256 + Wimbledon II 256
8.- PacMan Saga (256)
Pacmania 128 + Ms. Pacman 128
9.- Zillion Saga (256)
Zillion 128 + Zillion II: The Triformation 128

I think is posible to create them. What do you think?
Progammers and new ideas are welcome

Hm.
I'm no programmer, but maybe you could do something similar to some of the multicart Game Gear games, in which a mapper is used so the games on the cartridge cycle with successive power-ons.

There's a topic on this very forum that goes into a little bit of detail here.

I think this "Saga cartridges" will be a really hard work.
My idea is do it without phisical selectors or switchs with a screen menu and choosing the game you want to play like the original Master Games I.
I add pic of the Master Games 1 cartridge front side.

I see.
Does the Master Games I have a menu selection screen? Maybe you could make it work similarly to that using the chips and methods it uses (or with the "mapper" idea).

There is other video doing it with a button:

I have new questions?

Why create a prototype Menu Cartridge and other finalished with button?
I prefer the menu one.

It is possible a bigger size than 512?
A Mortal Kombat Saga could be great, or other sagas.

I add Master Games 1 Back side.

Making a multi cart is not that interesting technically. With a button you can do it in hardware and pack in original game ROMs, in software requires rather more work and potentially extra hardware in the cart. There's theoretically no limit to the number of games you can include.

LOL my very old Alex Kidd Memories compilation ^^

The 1st version was made many years ago (5 or 6 years), then after many hours spent in coding & electronics i've made a version without button. That's all.

More recently (months ago) I've made an Wonder Boy compilation (menu etc) without button. You can test the rom menu attached below. (not the finalized one).

There once were plans about making a (re)programmable SMS cart which would feature also some sort of bank remapping, thus making it possible to host many ROMs on the same cart, and have a menu for selecting them.

db-elec was making the hardware (see here - video here - this still lacks the bank remapping feature as of today) and I made a POC demo (here)... and Emulicious already supports it.

I don´t wanna a flashcart
Post Posted: Wed Sep 28, 2016 11:32 pm
Thanks ichigobankai for your messages, now is clear.
The wonderboy menu is a great job.
But my idea is not a flashcart or a cartridge with hundred of games.

I´m going to try to explain my idea better:

The idea is do a cartridge like the Master Games 1 this is the reason of the picture, and the cartridge I´d like to do is with the same way as the original one working with the most apropiate donor cart that I think is master games 1.
I know that the eprom with the roms may be replaced for a new one with the new menu and the new roms but the idea is make a new cartridge
with various games inside as released in 1993 but do it now.

This is the reason I calculate 512 with the mapper chip as top of memory like the original cartridge.

I don´t wana anybody do the work for me but please guide me to do it possible a old school cart with small menu for select to play 2 or 3 games maximun.

Let´s Centrate in Fantasy Zone Saga, I love this games and very similar to master games 1 in question of space and memory.

In this way I have a few questions?

Is master games 1 the most recomendable donor cart?
In the cartridge appears 4 small chips, function?
How to do it, if I burn a eprom M27C4001 for example the games need all the memory, the menu is very small, is it in other chip? Any game is cutted?

For me this will be months of work because I´m going to learn progamming and more things to do this. All help is aprreciated

Programming isn't needed if you are planning to hack Master Games, it has a separate mapper chip so you can put an EPROM in place of the ROM. Otherwise it is hard work because of the need for a mapper chip. The chip numbers are readily searchable, it's the MPR chip that is the ROM. The smaller chips are implementing the game switching.

What I am doing wrong?
Post Posted: Sun Oct 16, 2016 11:42 pm
I tried to burn a eprom M27C4001 with the 3 Fantasy Zone Games and does not work, only the last game of the compilation appears.
There is master system I to check my progammed carts,
The progammer is MiniPro TL866 with last firmware 6.5.
What happens is that only "Fantasy Zone: The Maze" works and the other two times works "Hang On" what is in the console bios, and the other 2 Fantasy Zone Games nothing.
Please, could anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

I tried to change the order and now no one game works.

I tried to learn the original rom and I can´t do it.

I think I need how to make the compilation of games to burn it and then the selectors of the PCB work changing games.

Finally I have the carts
Post Posted: Mon Sep 24, 2018 10:42 am
These are my 3 versions of Fantasy Zone Trilogy.
The led is a 3 color led and change the color depending the game you are playing. I printed in 3D these custom shells for extra space for the led.
Let´s see my next steps, I´m thinking in printing in 3D but in various colors, other idea is convert japanese roms to work on euro console and after that create a japanese or korean multicart with asian jewels. Opinions and help about how japanese or korean roms can be converted for work on euro console are welcome.[/img]

Sorry that I don´t know anything about the technical part, but let me say that your idea is great. Especially the idea of asian games is great, ´cause I´ve recently noticed that games like The Ninja or Enduro Racer were never released outside of Japan in a complete form (the JAP version of the Ninja has more levels and the JAP Enduro Racer has more race tracks). Nice cart designs too :D
