Some details on our Limited Run release for PS4, what we've been working on (we just finished it yesterday!).

https://twitter.com/LimitedRunGames/status/880908208860266496

> Introducing the Wonder Boy Collector's Edition: game, 2-disc OST, 18" x 24" poster, and 10 trading cards in a beautiful big box!
> Standard cover is on the reverse side.
> 24 page manual

Pre-order should be available this month (I don't know when exactly, but will post/announce when we do - it will probably sell out very quickly unfortunately so you'd have to act fast if you want to get it).

I have to say that, in my opinion, the illustration in the poster would have been a better fit as the cover since it serves as a good representation of the game, while cramming every possible character in an illustration can be done for any game/series/franchise ever with similar results, and is better suited for promotional materials (such as, a poster).

All those illustrations look great, in any case.

EDIT: Why does the board replace "in my opinion" with "at my opinion"?

A little late to the party but I just picked it up on steam and loving it. All the best with the release.

I'm holding out for the game until I get a Switch (which will be when games start appearing on it and the console is a little cheaper!)

Everything I have seen though looks fantastic and I am pretty hyped for when I do get a chance to play it!

Limited Run Games avail August 4th

Infos and instructions there:
http://www.thedragonstrap.com/blog/post/201708_Ps4Physical/

(Those LRG releases tends to be soldout in a few minutes, so if you are interested in that PS4 physical read the blog carefully!)

There's also a more humble PS4 physical version made for Asia, not as sexy/nice and but does the job. Also linked from the blog post.

I was able to get a copy of the standard edition (wasn't interested in the collector's edition).

You still have a chance at 6 PM Eastern to get a copy, or if you just want a physical copy without all the collector's edition extras, you can get it from Play-Asia (it's multi-language, including English).

I had the exact same experience but then noticed the Lawbreakers / Wonder Boy collectors edition bundle was still available so bought that instead. It too sold out soon after. I couldnt care less about Lawbreakers but didn't mind paying the extra to get hold of Wonder Boy! At least I don't have to line the pockets of the evil eBay resellers now.

Extreme Mode!
Post Posted: Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:27 pm
Awesome surprise today:

Extreme Mode!!!!

Here's the clue from the patch notes (lol):

"Gameplay: Absolutely not added a secret Extreme mode (which is totally not accessible by holding a certain Inventory button somewhere for a certain unknown amount of time)."

Which local gamestore? We have been talking to a partner in Asia to make those happen, but those blog post are the first time I hear about a price, a manufacturer or a release date. I personally have no idea where those info are coming from and how accurate they are.

Hello,
Well I bought the game a while ago (PC version), but I only finished it last week.
I really wanted to savor it, to make it last as long as possible.
In any case, thank you it is really superb, I had a good time.
It's a perfect remake. Super fluid. Graphically, it made me dream, now the original game really seems so empty. The music is exceptional !!!!
And the idea of some secret areas is very nice.

Next step, i'll try the Hardcore Mode.

Thank you

What a wonderful news!

Congrats Lizardcube =D By the way, I love the silver lines on white background at the lower side of the cover. You guys really force me to get a Switch someday.

Thanks balkry for your kind post!! :)

The game is currently -30% for 2 tweeks on the Switch eShop (until November 30).

The physical releases by Nicalis (America, Europe) should be out end of January and ARC (China, Hong Kong, Korea) should be out end of November I think. They are both more expensive than the digital one unfortunately. You can pre-orders both of them on Play-Asia. The Nicalis one may have some surprises like other Nicalis releases..

It also has interviews of Mutsuhiro Fujii

Komabayashi-san questions about Dragon's Trap were very detailed, he knows his stuff, so I expect the Fujii interview will be super interesting.

Only got around to play this now. But it's mighty impressive. It's an experience. Graphically and sonically the game is amazing.
Gameplay wise, i don't think i need to say anything. Everyone in this forum knows how bock feels about WB3, and that anything less than "perfect" wouldn't pass his quailty control.

Congrats on the amazing game! And thank you for your hard work on it. :)

If you check the extended soundtrack on Bandcamp, we have a few tracks that are more toward rock/metal as well, and a handful of other test or fun tracks https://dotemu.bandcamp.com/album/wonder-boy-the-dragons-trap

Adding my applaud for a wonderful remake Bock.

My only complaint so far is that I keep dying because I am distracted by the beautiful visuals.

Small update pushed to PS4, Switch, Steam and GOG versions, there is now an option to display the Inventory in Retro style.

It's off by default because it there's no item description and language localization, but I have a feeling we should have made it On by default..

A bug with the Knight Shield description
Post Posted: Sun Dec 31, 2017 4:16 pm
Someone on Facebook reached to me, and indirectly noticed a sort of "bug" in the game and I tracked it down to something on our wiki.

In our version of the game we described the Knight Shield with "Fit for feathered creatures"

This description is not particularly inspired (we have better ones thankfully), but particularly it was based on this table that Maxim extracted in 2006:
http://www.smspower.org/Development/WonderBoyIII-SMS

-- (Wiki screenshot, before the fix)

- Notice the specific stats and description for the Knight Shield.
- Also notice that curiously, the game screenshot shows +60 with Hawk-Man while the table says +100.

If you look closer and compare the hexadecimal values on the left with the decimal numbers on the right, you'll find that a mistake was made when translating those values, they got accidentally offset by one.

The _correct_ table, which I have now fixed on the wiki, is:

-- (Wiki screenshot, after the fix)

Note that the in-game stats used by both the 1989 and the 2017 versions were always matching those. In other words, the description of the Knight Shield on the 2017 version is misleading and "buggy" so to speak. I wrote some of those descriptions which this Wiki table next to me and when I done it hadn't noticed the discrepancy between what the Wiki said and actual in-game stats.

Sorry for that!

Wow, the fact that you kept glitches usable for speedrunners is cool as hell !
Also, I didn't know about that second controller thing to switch character whenever you want

Received our Nicalis retail copies today. (out Feb 13 in the US, a bit later in Europe/USA).
The game has a reversible cover modern and retro (both are included in every version), we used a higher-resolution internal copy of the Game Gear artwork for the alternate cover. Also got the approval from Sega to use the cartridge design pattern, small touch but I'm happy we got that.
I THINK WE ARE DONE WITH WONDER BOY III NOW

I like the "includes modern mode" bit :) Did you also get approval for the SMS box grid?

We asked for the original Limited Run Games back-cover and got an approval here. But we couldn't use a Sega logo. To be honest I think we could have used the patterns without asking, but it's just nicer and safer (and slower) to ask.

I didn't know Bock made this game!
The moment I heard about it I pre-ordered it on PS4.
The soundtrack is fucking amazing, as are the graphics.

Great job to you and the rest of the team.

I am also very, very late to this game. I actually couldn't play the SMS original thanks to the way the game displayed the turning physics. With the overhaul, it makes sense and the game is infinitely more enjoyable.

Well done to Bock and the rest of the team!
