Gamegear video input?
Post Posted: Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:27 am
I've searched around the forum and other sites but I haven't been able to find much in regards to gamegear's video input, just video output. Does anyone know any idea's on how this can be done?

thanks

My GUESS is that the TV tuner does the conversion. However, it should be a simple mod once you open the tuner up.

Gamegear Video Input
Post Posted: Sat Nov 25, 2006 1:01 pm
I've done some investigating on my PAL GG TV Tuner cart many moons ago.

It contains a fairly standard (of the day) PAL TV Tuner + Chroma Converter chipset, however the video output from the tuner chipset is fed into a custom Sega chip before going into the GG, as 12 or so separate line (if memory serves me correct).

Some GG cart slot pinout diagrams I've seen have named these lines, so somewhere out there there must be an understanding of how video is input into a game gear. I just can't be stuffed looking further into it...

If you look at the circuit the main problem is figuring out what the BF5032B3 IC is doing. This chip seems to be proprietary to sega and takes rgb in and outputs 12 lines of data.

I'm taking a stab at figuring this chip out. I do have access two a two ch and four ch oscope. maybe I'll get lucky.

I'll also attach a photo of the chip, so you don't have to destroy yours like I did mine.

This guy posts a lot of info on the GG and I believe has done work with the video input / TV tuner: https://www.facebook.com/gamegearconsole/
