This last weekend I saw the adapted Master System with FM sound.
We played R-Type, and the sound is just great. Massage nearly gets the sound, but its drums are all wrong. The drums are much better on the real thing. My friend Leonard can adapt FM chip on your machines, but he doesn't have the FM chip anymore. It very hard to find the YM2413 chip. If you want to have it, look for the MSX cartridge "FM-PAC". This MSX cartridge has the YM2413 inside. It's being sold for US$ 50 these days. You can contact Leonard through his email: leonard.oliveira@apis.com.br BUT ONLY CONTACT HIM AFTER YOU GOT THE CHIP. Well, I'm going to send him a message right now about getting the informations on how he does it. Then we'll search if it is possible to make mass buy (I mean, not really mass but like 50/100) of YM2413 chipsets to distribute them here with no profits, assuming the modifications is not so hard to do. |

I wish it was that easy, YM2413 is not produced anymore. The only way to get the chip is by removing it from an old equipment. Besides the FM-PAC, you can also search for an old MSX2+ computer. All MSX 2+ have the chip built-in. By the way, I got two of them, but no way I'm removing it from my computers :) Ricardo Bittencourt |

are you sure? because its still listed (its the only fm chip still listed) on yamaha's systems site
http://www.yamahayst.com (under the Audio icon on the right). how was the chip implemented into the sms; attached directly onto the system or perhaps a pass through cart? (probably not, but it would be nice) where abouts were/are msx machines common? ive never seen any of them before ;(
