[Museum] Lifting weight for a quicker start

Back to previous work on the museum database:
http://wip.smspower.org/tests/games/test09.html I'd like to focus on finishing the setup of a basic, simplier version of the DB, with the following things as a start: - Game unique infos - Game per-country releases infos We should really work iteratively. Iteration is the key. So I'll drop the the trillion other things for now on. Starting with only game release will help in having a global list and then we can complete. We have a fairly credible DB scheme already (see smspower-db-draft09.png, not latest version but ok) so it's not like we're running on a wall with no vision of the future. Development wise, the biggest missing thing now are proper tools or experience to setup administration page. Doing the code for rendering pages to users isn't very difficult. I'm still interested in help/direction regarding that. I'm sure people developped tools or knowledge to do that quicker than doing it manual. I'll shut the fuck up and do it. |

Sounds great, I for one can't wait for a information packed games database, I know it must seem daunting taking up such a big challenge, maybe by breaking it down into smaller managable pieces you'll be able to get started. I wish you the very best of luck. I am really looking forward to seeing the results of all your hard work.
Best Regards Simon |

First batch of scripts

Alright, here is what I did yesterday:
Try: http://www.smspower.org/search.php And filters: http://www.smspower.org/search.php?system=SMS&country=jp Keywords: http://www.smspower.org/search.php?keywords=zillion I'm working on the base structure. It is not terribly exciting as of yet, and there's a lot to do (interface fixes, improvement, actual page content, etc etc). The good thing is that my over-complicated multi-release based table works well and I wrote several scripts to precompute data to save on server ressource. You can see that US Fantasy Zone has two different cartridges labels (red and blue): http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=FantasyZone Power Strike / Aleste, with two names: http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=PowerStrike Note that I stripped the "main" game page drastically to keep only the basic information as of yet. I'll work on it more and then I'll try to write a document ordering and listing everything that need to be done. If it goes well, we may be able to integrate the scan database quicker than I first expected. |

Medias

To let you know, I have already drawn 28 types of media (cartridges, cards, etc), and I expect to double that by the time we list all unique games.
Some example of media: Borderline: http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sg1000&name=Borderline Ninja Princess: http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sg1000&name=NinjaPrincess Also need to figure out how to automatically disable Japanese by default on system that does not support it (and then give user the choice). |

I have now did the following:
- Added the possibility to set additionnal search keyword. Now if you search for "Wonderboy" it will find "Wonder Boy" - Searchable by company name: http://www.smspower.org/search.php?keywords=compile - New media. - New scripts fixes/features. - Added Australian silver cartridges media (now 30 medias known in my list). See for exemple Mortal Kombat II: http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=MortalKombatII |
