sms power supply

I just bought a model 3010-A master system. Although it came with a power supply, it's not an original sega ps, but a generic one with a rating of 10v 1200ma. How tolerant is the sms of over voltage - can I safely use this ps or is the extra volt enough to fry my system?

Make sure it's the correct polarity though, the SMS only uses a tip negative PSU, not the more common tip positive.

Yes, already checked that. Was only worried because I know that with some systems, like the commodore 64, certain chips will get fried if you go even half a volt over.

The voltage regulator takes the external voltage down to 5V, dumping the excess as heat. 9V or 10V just affects how warm it gets.
