Sonic 2 - Zen Island (HACK)
Post Posted: Wed Apr 05, 2017 7:52 am
Here a new hack of Sonic 2 by Yoshister (a member of the sonicretro community).

Pretty challenging and interesting, some pretty smart idea of level design, if you like Sonic you should give it a try!

Gameplay video:

The game is right now often uploaded, not always easy to find the last rom, I will try to always upload the last version here (.ips patch).
Patch to use on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (UE) [!] rom.

Why is there alot of Pits & Spikes in the 1st level

That's what I hate about Hackers they make hacks little to hard or just go over board with stuff

It's not unusual - level makers tend to produce overly difficult levels because they are familiar with the game, and they will have played those levels many times while creating them, so their ability to judge the difficulty is skewed. Also, often the goal is to make a more challenging extension to the original game, which often will have had a difficulty curve targeted at young children.

If you don't like it - feel free to make your own hacks, more creation is better.

I've been meaning to make Underground Zone the fourth zone and Green Hills Zone the first zone, but I don't know how to do so.

Nonetheless, I have been trying to make the hack a little easier for new players.

Pardon the thread bump but...

I think I'm finished with Zen Island for now.

There's a few problems but as far as I see it it's pretty much complete.

All levels (Except for Crystal Egg, which is inaccessible for crash reasons. Thankfully the game ends at Scrambled Egg Zone Act 3.) have new layouts and a majority of levels have new palettes.

Also there's some art edits like newly added bouncy floors from Wacky Workbench and boost pads from Chemical Plant.

There's some pictures and a trailer at the SHC2017 entry page.

Do note the version attached is a essentially a version 1.1, as it has a few changes from the SHC version.
