Gimme those old sound driver infos
Post Posted: Mon Feb 06, 2017 12:55 am
Hi!
So, in slight relation to the other thread i just opened - do we have any info other than disassemblies regarding sound drivers used in the original SMS games?
Before i start trying to design a totally new audio driver (mml based), i'd like to know how it was done in the past with the SMS. I must admit i'm not good enough yet to exactly understand what's going when looking at some disassembly. Basically this thread mustn't be solely about SMS sound drivers - any article/info about old sound drivers when there were no trackers etc, are welcome and useful! I'm not in the psychical state to type much more now (hahhhh), i may however spam down my own idea sometime later. There were some interesting discussions i had on irc with some people, and i really think VGM or ANY "streamed" data shouldn't be used for bigger projects with more and longer tunes.

Check the source for Jerome Tel's productions, for example A-Team. It looks a lot like he crafted the sequences by hand.
