DefleMask and VGM Music Maker - maybe others too but these I'm sure :)

DefleMask does not list support in documentation. I assume it supports vrc7 but not quite the same thing. VGM Music Maker lists support for OPL2.

I have come across a few opll + psg mixed tunes listed as 'msx music' but failed to find a tracker. A little stumped.

Sorry, they support YM2612 in fact.
Can't you use it as if it was an YM2413? I'm not an expert here, I could be wrong at all...

If you want to create .vgm files for YM2413, you can use midi + mid2vgm.
You can any tracker/sequencer that outputs midi files.

Thanks tibone.

Looking for something that supports modifications of custom voice within tune similar to say DefleMask. Is the single custom channel on ym2413 the same as a voice on YM2612 or similar enough that the register writes could be parsed for same effect on ym2413?

The YM2413 doesn't have "a channel with custom voice" - it has "one custom voice" that can be used by any channel.
YM2612 and YM2413 are different OPx families, so they are not compatible.
The YM2612 is from the OPN family. The YM2413 is OPLL, which is a reduced version of the YM3812/OPL2 that you know from DOS games.

mid2vgm OPLL can convert an OPL2 instrument into OPLL writes* for the custom instrument, but it is unable to change the instrument during the song.

*That's the "Operators" text box. It supports the most common register orders, so you can copy hex-values from a CMF file and paste them into the text box.

tyvm valleybell. Foreign ground for me.

I saw the custom voice details in readme of mid2vgm.

As for something allowing changes during song the closest solution i have found is to use nes tracker supporting Konami VRC7 though there are questions. I know it does not support percussion, not sure of other differences.

YM2413 support has been floated around for DefleMask in the past. It might be easiest to wait before exploring options :(

Try mailing Delek or posting in his forum for adding the Japanese SMS to the list of currently supported systems, given that he's already supporting other FM chips, then it might not be impossible :)

There are some FM trackers on the MSX available. You could run them in emulation:

Moonblaster and FAC soundtracker are the most well know trackers. But they are quite clunky trackers.

If you like you could use my FM+PSG tracker. It's still work in progress but it will be compatible with SMS in the end (having a re-player and support for SN). I'd be happy to get some feedback and bug reports. You'll need to run it in an MSX emulator (I can help you get started if needed).

You can find some examples of previous versions here:

Shouldn't it read TRILO tracker? That will actually produce some results:

who is understand how music instrument is creating? can you make midi's like instruments, but for VGM Music Maker? i mean as midi sounds in PC - make same sound for VGM MM instruments by switching some switchers in instrument settings. i have some pack with 127 instruments, but most of them sounds not like PC-MIDI's sound. i want to make great midi converter for some Sega Mega Drive game, what have GEMS audio driver, but this wrong sounds of instrument make this converting suks.

Don't expect anyone to ever make any SMS tracker supporting OPLL because people don't actually care for it. No it's not my opinion, the opposite is the case, but few (SMS) people do share our love for the YM2413. Wait until SnevenTracker is done so someone can be bribed enough to add it - or if You can deal with C++, do it Yourself =O mid2vgm is nice to play around but it's never as expressive.. No love for the YM2413 in this world *plays harmonica and stares at the desert ruins of civilization

Edit:
Apparently the D.A.R.C. (look in the homebrew section) OST has been made with TriloTracker and - as i assume - some converter. Any info on that will be highly appreciated!

Edit2:
Nope, not TriloTracker but Moonblaster 1.4 which is another MSX Tracker. Seriously, these MSX people have it better than us =)

Edit3:
Huey aka Zipper could maybe shed some light on this~

so, is it correct that there are no trackers specifically for the YM 2413? I could not find a working link to vgm tracker and the YM 2413 is not listed as a supported sound chip for Deflemask.

I think adding support for FM sound to my favorite games would make a wonderful project. How was the FM sound added to Sonic for the Master System?

Thanks, Carl

YMF292 (what's in Saturn) has no sound tools available and for YM2203 you can use any tracker supporting OPN family chips (YM2612, YM3438, YM2608, YM2610).

The music is made in Moonblaster. I have made a converter and replayer that works on SMS.
I can share it on the homebrew section here if there is need for.

I'm working on a more advanced tracker/replayer (trilotracker FM) but its progress is going slow. ;)
