problem logging in

I'm sure this is very specific to my badly dated system, but lately (weeks/months, can't remember how long) I've been unable to log in with Opera (10.50).
IE and Firefox (even older than Opera...) work well, even simultaneously, but Opera won't let me log in, whether or not I'm logged in with the other browsers.

We haven't changed anything. Try clearing cookies and cookie settings for this domain.

Well that wasn't hard, deleting cookie did it.
