[Forums] PM spam
Post Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 3:19 pm
Many of you (a few hundred) may have recently received a 419 scam PM. For obvious reasons you should not reply*; I've deleted the PMs and the user.

This kind of thing is hard to stop; the account was set up by a real person and they made sure not to spam me, at least. It was only thanks to a user telling me about it (goldsac) that I was able to take some action. So thanks for that. Also, well done on being user number 1337 :)

* unless you're a scambaiter

Annoying internet :(

There's probably a simple MOD to install or create to limit number of PM, perhaps based on date of registration or number of number. ?

Yes, but I'm avoiding new MODs until I have time to migrate to phpBB3.

We have quite a lot of PMs from users who have never posted, so we can't block those. Limiting to 5 or 10 PMs per day ought to be plenty, but requires DB modifications.
