Do Genesis controllers work on the Master System?

Yes they do, but not Start and A button.

A few games, such as Wonder Boy in Monster Land, due to the way they access the joypad port, will not work with a Megadrive/Genesis controller.

Great Volleyball has problems also... It was also written on Tec Toy SMS joysticks boxes to use it on the Mega Drive when playing this game...

I just dusted off my copy of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, and I tried it with my Genesis controller. Didn't work too well. My guy kept going to the left untill i swapped my Genesis controller with a SMS pad.

If you cut the wire in the Genesis/Megadrive controller that connects to the start button, it will work with ALL sms games, including Wonder boy II, Montezumas revenge, ect.
Or you could hook up a switch to this wire and give the controller a SMS/Genesis switch option.
