Rapidly alternate buttons [1] and [2] when the words "Galaxy Zone", "Asteroid Zone", or "Nebula Zone" are displayed. If you do it at just the right speed, the red power-ups appear. Note: finding the precise speed to press the buttons is fairly difficult.
