S: The Sega Magazine was launched in the UK December 1989 with issue 1 sent free sent to all Master System users who had registered their consoles, or given away with certain games. It was then available only by mail-order until issue 6, which was on general sale. After 12 issues it was rebranded as Sega Power, and seems to have lost its semi-official status as the UK's official Sega magazine.
The magazine itself was the first console-specific magazine in the UK. As such, its sales were rather low (launch editor Steve Jarrat said in an interview that "initial very poor but it gradually grew") and the magazines rather thin (typically 36 pages), with sometimes only one new release per month to review. There was, however, a reasonably large back catalogue to fill out the review pages. It also features the "official Sega club" with various promotional activities seemingly closely tying the magazine (from Future Publishing) to Virgin Mastertronic.
